Frottage
Exploring the unnoticed textures of my surroundings through frottage. This method reduces a three-dimensional texture into a two-dimensional recording whilst showing depth. I focussed on the man-made picking up the textures that go unseen by the general public.
Wet media light drawings
In this task I investigated the effects of man-made lights in their surroundings. I focused on the unnoticed or infrequently visited spaces which are affected by a predominant light, which emphasises specific details that would usually go unseen.
Weather drawings
I recorded the changes in weather over a week in Manchester. Rather than looking at the physical changes to a building or area, I wanted to focus on the feeling and affect the weather had on me as an individual throughout the week. On the left I experimented with different mark making techniques using acrylic paints. I found that using layering and different thicknesses of the paint allowed me to build atmosphere. In the final A1 piece, the scale allowed me to generate additional motion and depth using full body movements. I also only used horizontal and vertical strokes to create a feeling of repetition due to the lack of changes to the weather between days.

Object collage
Looking at a new way of recording a collection of objects. I used my found objects and created a composition. I then drew each item separately in 2 minutes and collaged them back together. This quick way of working encouraged me to focus on the item as a whole and pick up specific details. I believe that adding the shadows of surrounding objects onto the drawing at the time created a collage that works as a whole rather than lots of separate items placed on top of each other.
Object location drawings
Studying a specific location of a found object from someone else in my group. I explored the architecture through line drawings to capture the dominant and imposing fixed surroundings. Whilst I used loose pen and ink drawings to capture the atmosphere of the further surroundings.
