How did drawing inform your ideas and approach to material practice?
Initially my drawings concentrated on capturing the location of the hand, focusing primarily on the energy that was created. I utilised a range of thicknesses in my mark making to convey the precision of large bursts of motion across the page. As a result, I explored the idea of differing emotions when pointing by creating a series of abstract expressions to convey each one. Exploring a variety of both physical and digital media, I found that using wet medium allowed me to transfer full body movements and a greater sense of energy. Finally, I transferred these into design pages, looking to create refined drawings of wearable jewellery centred around the finger. I used photos of the hand to quickly and proportional lay out my ideas directly onto the hand. Rapid prototyping using cards and tape not only allowed me to generate varying forms, but also work out how these would react to differing hand movements. Overall, these design sheets acted as a set of instructions, dictating material choices and composition. This allowed me to focus on process and accuracy of the sample in the workshop.
